Hello!
I have recently been souping up the Killeen, TX airport (KGRK) and trying to make it look like what it looks like in real life (it is empty on FS).
And anyways, in real life there in a large hill that is right next to the airport and on the game it is all flat around the airport.
Can you please tell me how to create a simple hill or give me links that can get me started?
Thanks! ;D

Wow I am an idiot. I just noticed the sub forum that has a tutorial on how to do it. Sorry!

Hi,
I would recommend downloading some higher resolution mesh and compiling it for use in FS.
My Gmax terrain tutorial is more for creating a customizable mesh that you can add your own textures too.
What flight simulator version are you working with? I can help you from there.

Make a new folder inside your FS2004/Addon Scenery folder and name it whatever you like. Then inside that new folder, make a folder called "Scenery" and place the file inside that folder. In FS2004 go to Settings > Scenery Library > Add New Area... Then browse to the first folder you named and select it, pressing OK. Restart FS2004 and you should be good to go!

scubakobe, great job but one problem... I meant the area right here (see red circle on the right) as opposed to the circle on the left where you put the hills (which are also realistic, so I am keeping for sure). The hill is right next to the terminal. It's quite weird but thats the way it is in real life, as you may have seen on the video. I guess I could try to do it myself if you dont have the time (or just dont want to do it) but I need to know where to find the FS2004 resample tool.

Hmm..
I had the same problem. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong because I did everything the same way I used to do it, and worked.
I think my FS2004 SDK needs a reinstall.
I'll get back on this tomorrow.

Ok, Thanks sk. By the way, when I try to download from seamless.usgs.gov it gives me the download and I click on it, and it says its retrieving the info but it never comes... And also, when I do get it to work, how do I save it in BIL format? Is it just an option on the save menu?

I'm troubleshooting over at FS Developer, but I made a little progress. As you can see from the following screenshot, the mesh shows up in the map, but not on the surface. I'll let you know when I finally get it figured out.

Ok what worked for me was changing a setting in the FS9.CFG file:
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
to find that file.
Then look under the [Terrain] section for
"Terrain_Max_Vertex_Level" and set it equal to 21.
Let me know how that works.

It worked like a charm! Thank you a lot Kobe for your time to help me. The airport looks so much more realistic now. Dylan
